Nominations open for 2013 optometry Hall of Fame candidates

The American Optometric Association announced that it is currently accepting nominations for the 2013 National Optometry Hall of Fame, which highlights luminaries within the field who have made a significant and long-lasting impact on the profession.

Nominees should be recognizable through their national stature and have had a significant and enduring impact on the profession, according to an AOA press release.

Their full range of contributions should be represented, including professional leadership and research contributions, as well as other areas of significance. Diversity and a balance of historical and current but well established achievements should also be available for consideration, the release said.

Hall of Fame selections will be determined by a selection committee that represents the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the National Optometric Association, the AOA and the American Academy of Optometry, according to the release.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.aoa.org/HallofFame or can also be obtained by emailing Foundation@aoa.org, using “2013 Nomination Form” as the subject line.

Nomination form and supporting documentation for candidates should be emailed to Foundation@aoa.org, or mailed to: National Optometry Hall of Fame, c/o Optometry Cares® — The AOA Foundation, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO, 63141.

The deadline for receiving nominations is Dec. 31.

Inductees will be honored at Optometry’s Meeting in June 2013.
