PHOENIX – Alden Optical announced here at Academy 2012 that the company has launched Astera Multifocal Toric.

Alden Optical’s Tom Shone told attendees at an academy-sponsored press conference, “The new lens has stabilized near and distance zones and large spherical zones to ensure minimal visual compromise. It comes in two add profiles: Profile 1 for up to +2 D and Profile 2 for above that.

“The proprietary Dual Elliptical Stabilization adds mass at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock,” he added. “This means faster rotational alignment, improved orientation, excellent rotational stability and reduced lens thickness.”

The material is hioxifilcon D with 54% water content and comes in 13 mm to 16 mm diameter, base curves of 7.7 to 9.8 in 0.1-mm steps and powers of +/-30 D in 0.1-mm steps.
