VSP mobile eye care clinic provides disaster relief to tornado ravaged Alabama
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. VSP Vision Care last week deployed a state-of-the-art 45-foot mobile eye exam clinic to the tornado ravaged areas of Tuscaloosa, Ala. to provide no-cost comprehensive eye exams and eyewear to the families and children in need, according to a company press release.
The mobile eye clinic, created in partnership with Transitions Optical, offers a state-of-the-art exam room, dispensary and in-office finishing lab allowing glasses to be made on-site. The University of Alabama School of Optometry (UAB) has also provided portable ophthalmic equipment for multiple patients to be seen at once, the release said.
To date, working in collusion with local American Red Cross chapters, VSP doctors and UAB, VSP has directly helped over 1,000 tornado victims regain their sight after losing or breaking their glasses. VSP has also provided the American Red Cross with 3,000 gift certificates, valued at $1.15 million, to distribute to Red Cross clients in need across all of the areas affected by tornadoes or flooding. The gift certificates are redeemable at local VSP doctors offices and include comprehensive eye exams and eyewear, said the release.
As a company committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, VSP is committed to helping families begin the rebuilding process by simply taking care of their eyes and protecting their vision for the long road ahead, said Rob Lynch, president and CEO, VSP Global, in the release.
