NEW YORK — Shamir Insight Inc. has launched two new free-form progressive lenses, Shamir Golf and Shamir FirstPAL, the company announced at a press conference here at Vision Expo East.

"Shamir Golf is designed with the golfer in mind, for wrap frames, with a design focused on close vision to see the score card, mid-range to see the ball at your feet and distance," Matt Lytle, Shamir vice president of marketing, said at the press conference. "It also provides enhanced peripheral vision."

He noted that the lens is available in polycarbonate, with UV protection and in single vision.

The Golf lens also utilizes As-Worn technology, which customizes the lenses more acutely to the individual wearer by accounting for the additional measurements of vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt and panoramic angle, according to company literature.

The FirstPAL is specifically designed for those "on the brink of presbyopia," Mr. Lytle said.

This low-addition progressive targets patients 40 to 45 years old, offering clear and wide far vision, a comfortable reading zone and easy transition between the two, according to company literature.

"It's like progressive lenses with training wheels," Mr. Lytle said. "It is an introductory solution that helps ease patients into progressives."

FirstPAL is available to order through Shamir's network of Autograph partner labs.
