ATLANTA --- SECO International will offer a board certification review course for optometrists planning to take the first board certification test, according to a press release from the organization.

The certification review course will be held on March 2 during SECO 2011 in Atlanta. The 6-hour course will offer the science, clinical concepts and testing materials necessary to prepare for the board certification examination, which will be held in June 2011. SECO was waiting to develop the course content until the American Board of Optometry released the test outline in November, the release said. Now, SECO’s continuing education committee will begin development with course lecturers, J. James Thimons, OD, and Gary Oliver, OD.

“We recognize that there is some debate over why SECO would offer this course to attendees, but as a not-for-profit organization with no affiliation with any board certification entity and the sole mission of providing continuing education to eye care professionals, we felt it was important to provide this service to our attendees who are seeking board certification next year,” Ron Bannister, OD, president of SECO International, said in the release.
