NEW YORK — Essilor debuted the Xperio Sunwear Conversation Training Series at an Essilor-sponsored press conference during International Vision Expo.

The online training program is designed to help eye care practitioners and sales consultants display and dispense Xperio polarized lenses, with sessions aimed at helping ECPs solve the misconception patients hold of polarized prescription sun wear, according to a company press release.

Essilor of America senior vice president of marketing and new business, Carl Bracy, said at the press conference that the four modules of the program cover display, discussion, demonstration and dispensing.

It was designed in response to a recent survey revealing that 33% of eyeglass wearers own polarized sunglasses, 81% of wearers are interested, but only 27% had their ECP recommend the prescription sunglasses. The survey also revealed a strong emotional link between prescription glasses and safety, particularly on the road, and yet only 13% of wearers said they were recommended prescription sunglasses specifically for driving purposes, said the release.
