ATLANTA – Vmax Vision announced the launch of the PSF Refractor and Encepsion lenses during a press conference at the SECO 2011 meeting.
The PSF Refractor offers a patented unique Integrated Vision System that allows eye care practitioners to provide their patients with the most accurate refraction available, directly incorporating the patient’s subjective input. It is up to five times more precise than the phoropter, measuring to 0.05-D accuracy, according to a company press release. This data can then be used to prescribe premium Encepsion progressive-addition and single vision lenses, which are manufactured using 100% digital freeform Diamond Point Technology, incorporating the patient’s lifestyle and individualized fitting data.
Vmax President and Chief Executive Officer, Shui Lai, PhD, told PRIMARY CARE OPTOMETRY NEWS that the subjective component of this refraction neutralizes higher-order aberrations.
He said the Encepsion lenses are available in photochromic, polarized, Trivex, polycarbonate and high index. “Vision is maximized at all gaze angles, vertex distance and frame factors,” Dr. Lai said.
In a 900-patient multicenter study that lasted more than 8 months, 90% of patients preferred the experience of the point-spread function (PSF) refraction over the phoropter, Dr. Lai said. Ninety-six percent attained equal or better acuity and one in three reported improved visual acuity.
