NEW YORK — Prevent Blindness America has released a white paper, courtesy of a grant from the Transitions Healthy Sight for Life Fund, bringing national attention to the need for public education on the damaging effects of UV radiation to eye sight, according to a Transitions Optical company press release.

The paper overviews the role of UV radiation and how it contributes to eye diseases such as cataract, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and pterygium. It also makes specific calls-to-action for policymakers including the inclusion of UV eye protection messages, research on the impact of UV on the eye and a heightened awareness of the role of vision wear, the release said.
