ORLANDO, Fla. — Bausch + Lomb launched Biotrue multipurpose contact lens solution during Optometry's Meeting here.

Designed to mimic the eye's natural hydrating function, the solution is pH-balanced and employs moisture-attracting hyaluronan for long-lasing lubrication.

In clinical trials, 81% of patients said the solution felt like their natural tears and Biotrue was found to maintain over 13 times more active lysozyme than other solutions, according to the release.

In addition, Biotrue exceeded the "stand-alone" disinfection efficacy criteria for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and International Organization for Standardization. After being tested against a broad range of bacteria and fungi, the solution was effective against Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA and Fusarium solani, as well as Acanthamoeba cysts and tryphozoites.

Biotrue is packaged in a clear bottle and will be available in a range of sizes to U.S. retailers this month.
