ABO to provide exam beginning next June

ST. LOUIS – The American Board of Optometry announced progress toward providing the American Board Certification Examination in June 2011, according to a press release from the organization.

Now in phase 2, the MyABO web portal, accessible through www.abopt.org, allows active candidates to upload their post-graduate activities to complete the 150-point requirement for the first examination. The site also includes more details on what activities qualify as category 2 education.

In addition, the results are in from the Job/Profession Analysis Survey, and they will be reviewed by the Examination Specifications Committee as they develop the examination, the release said. Item writers will begin creating test questions in the coming weeks.

The ABO examination application and reservation system will open in January 2011, and the first exam will be offered during the first 2 weeks of June 2011. Optometrists can apply to become active candidates for certification at www.abopt.org.
