ST. LOUIS - The American Board of Optometry has released the content overview for the inaugural Board Certification Examination Test, according to a press release from the organization.

The content outline is based on responses from a job analysis survey sent to the optometry profession in October, which focuses on the "tasks and knowledge necessary for optometric practice, as well as their relative importance," the release said.

The American Board of Optometry (ABO) will release a more detailed outline in a few weeks, but the current outline is available online at www.abopt.org. Optometrists can also apply to become active candidates for ABO board certification through the website.

The exam will be 6 hours long with 240 questions and will be administered June 1-18, 2011, at more than 400 Prometric Test Centers around the world.
