After defeating seven contenders for the Republican nomination, Dr. Boozman is running against Democratic incumbent, Blanche Lincoln, who has held Arkansas’ U.S. Senate seat for two terms.

Dr. Boozman, a lifelong Arkansas resident, was in private practice for more than 25 years. He established a low vision program at the Arkansas School for the Blind and volunteered at an area clinic that provides medical services to low-income families, his website said.

Now in his fifth term representing the Third Congressional District of Arkansas, Dr. Boozman opposes “all anti-market, pro-big government legislation,” including President Obama’s stimulus plans.

Dr. Boozman also opposes government-run health care, and he has worked to achieve free market health care reform as a member of the U.S. House GOP Doctors Caucus. According to this website, he aims to preserve the doctor-patient relationship by increasing the affordability and accessibility of health care for all Americans.

“Until our system is accessible to all citizens of this country, no matter their economic status, it will never truly work,” he said on his website. “I am committed to health care reform that gives people the freedom they need to ensure their own well-being.” – by Courtney Preston
