BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A civil suit filed on be half of 22 states by the New York district attorney's office alleges that certain optometrists and contact lens manufacturers conspired to limit the availability of contact lenses to consumers.
The suit, filed in federal court here, says Bausch & Lomb, Ciba Vision and Vistakon, a Johnson & Johnson (J&J) subsidiary; several ODs; and industry-related organizations conspired to restrict access to contact lenses, resulting in higher consumer prices. All three companies released statements, including J&J's assertion that it stands by a policy that lenses should be distributed only on the premises to patients after examination by licensed practitioners.
