Broadway star helps launch World Sight Day Challenge

Optometry Giving Sight will launch its 2008 World Sight Day Challenge at a special event during Vision Expo East featuring a star of one of Broadway's hit shows.

Laura Osnes, leading lady of the Broadway musical, Grease, winner of NBC's Grease: You're the One That I Want and daughter of a Minnesota optometrist, will launch this year's World Sight Day Challenge on Friday, April 11, at 4:30 pm during a special reception at Vision Expo East in New York.

Ms. Osnes will sing a song from her Broadway show and perform a duet with her optometrist father. Guests will also have a chance to win tickets to see Grease on Saturday, April 12.

To attend the reception, optometrists are being asked to join the World Sight Day Challenge by committing to donate fees from their eye exams on World Sight Day - set for Oct. 9 - or signing up for a regular monthly donation. Current donors are also invited to attend.

The World Sight Day Challenge aims to raise funds for projects that provide access to services, training of local people and infrastructure development in developing countries where 90% of preventable blindness occurs. In 2007, hundreds of optometrists from around the world took the challenge, raising more than $250,000.
