Cup-to-disc ratio, refractive error affected in nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy patients.
A higher degree of myopia and hyperopia was associated with larger cup-to-disc ratio in patients with anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. Overall, cup-to-disc ratio in those patients was significantly smaller than in the general population.
Reduced motion detection may affect balance in older adults
Diminished ability to detect small movements or reduced visual fields may result in difficulties with balance in older adults, researchers have found. Their study is believed to be the first large-scale analysis of population-based data to gauge the extent to which visual function and motion detection affect balance.
Pilot study finds systematic vision stimulation may improve some visual field defects
Visual defects caused by retinal lesions appeared to improve after 6 months of computer-based systematic vision stimulation, a small study found.
Minus lens method of measuring accommodative power proves most reliable
Three methods of measuring amplitude of accommodation showed widely varying degrees of repeatability, a key factor in gauging significant accommodative changes. The methods are not interchangeable, the study authors said.
Interactive computer program improves BCVA in patients with unilateral amblyopia
ATLANTA A computer-based treatment improved best corrected visual acuity and contrast sensitivity in patients older than 10 years with unilateral amblyopia, according to study results presented here.
Study finds decreased visual acuity uncommon in preschool-aged children
