Calculating the correct IOL power for a patient who has undergone previous corneal refractive surgery is a challenge. Miscalculations in these patients have led in some cases to large “refractive surprises” requiring lens exchange or a secondary piggyback IOL, said Jack T. Holladay, MD, MSEE, FACS.
Senate passes plano contact lens bill
WASHINGTON — Last week the Senate passed a bill classifying all contact lenses as medical devices, according to a press release from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. A companion House bill is scheduled for consideration when Congress reconvenes in September.
CIBA, J&J in patent dispute
ATLANTA — CIBA Vision has filed suit against Vistakon for allegedly infringing upon CIBA’s patented silicone hydrogel contact lens technology. CIBA seeks to halt a planned launch of a Johnson & Johnson silicone hydrogel extended wear contact lens, according to a CIBA press release. J&J notes this suit is in response to one filed by J&J in February.
