VIDEO: Device allows patients to ‘test drive’ IOLs before cataract surgery
KOLOA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye 2025, Jay S. Pepose, MD, PhD, discusses a device that simulates vision outcomes of presbyopia-correcting IOLs.
According to Pepose, the device utilizes a focus tunable lens that changes shape and power quickly enough to simulate the perception of a static multifocal image.
“This allows a way to preoperatively simulate in cataract patients, or in clear lens exchange patients, any combination of diffractive or refractive IOLs and allow the patient in a sense to test drive the IOL before making a decision,” Pepose said.
