VIDEO: Distinguish quantity vs. quality of vision to manage unhappy refractive patients

KOLOA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye 2025, Audrey R. Talley Rostov, MD, of Bellevue Precision Vision, breaks down how to manage patients who are unsatisfied with their vision after refractive cataract surgery.

According to Rostov, the ophthalmologist must find out if the root of the patient’s unhappiness is the quantity or quality of their vision so the best method of action can be determined.

“You want to make sure you have in your toolbox all the modalities to be able to treat these patients appropriately,” she said. “Of course it’s better to stay out of trouble then to get out of trouble, and choosing the right IOL for your patient can also be very helpful.
