CHICAGO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, Sheri Rowen, MD, of NVISION Eye Centers, discusses the link between dry eye disease and menopause.

Menopause can contribute to women losing the ability to make their own natural tears,” she said.

According to Rowen, women who have never shown signs or symptoms of dry eye disease may begin experiencing eye fatigue, fluctuating vision or other forms of ocular discomfort during menopause.

“We want to produce our own natural tears, and more of them, to protect our ocular surface so that we feel and see better and don’t have the ramifications of dry eye disease, especially those associated with menopause,” she said.
