BARCELONA, Spain — In this Healio Video Perspective from the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Amar Agarwal, MS, FRCS, FRCOphth, shares his experience with pinhole pupilloplasty.

This surgical procedure aims to obtain a pinhole pupillary aperture and is indicated for people with highly aberrated corneas due to conditions such as corneal scar, corneal injury, pellucid marginal degeneration and previous radial keratotomy. It is performed using a single-pass four-throw technique and a pinhole device that helps customize the size of the pupil according to the patient’s preference.

“These patients have an extended depth of focus. In other words, they not only see 20/20 but they see J1 or N6 for near also without glasses,” Agarwal said.
