CARLSBAD, Calif. — In this Healio Video Perspective from the Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium, Michelle T. Cabrera, MD, of Seattle Children’s discusses her research on sexual harassment in ophthalmology.

According to Cabrera, the rate of sexual harassment among women in ophthalmology is 59%, similar to the rate observed 5 years ago. The rate of incidents that occurred within the last 5 years increased, likely due to increased awareness and reporting, Cabrera said.

“This data is important to show us that this is still a significant problem,” she said. “All our institutions need to take it really seriously.”
