SEATTLE — In this video, Eleonora M. Lad, MD, PhD, vice chair of ophthalmology clinical research at Duke Health, discusses a presentation at the ARVO annual meeting on patient preferences for retinal prosthesis options.

The study showed that a majority of patients with age-related macular degeneration were interested in a visual restoration device for activities of daily living, Lad said.

“The example used in this study was the Prima glasses, and some would limit the use of glasses in public, but most would accept to participate in vision rehabilitation for bionic vision if this was offered,” she said. “This study highlights the importance of vision restoration and working with our low vision optometry colleagues to help with their everyday life.”
