BOSTON — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ASCRS meeting, Eris Jordan, OD, of Aurion Biotech, and Elizabeth Yeu, MD, FACS, discuss corneal endothelial cell therapy.

According to Yeu, one of the first surgeons to perform the procedure, patients in El Salvador had a level of corneal clarity and thinning “that I’ve never seen before” at 6 months to 1 year postoperatively. Yeu and Jordan also discussed a case in which the procedure was performed in combination with cataract surgery in a patient with corneal edema.

According to Aurion, a trial began enrolling patients in November with the first Canadian patient enrolled in late March. It is anticipated to complete enrollment by the end of April.
