FRANKFURT, Germany — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS winter meeting, Magda Rau, MD, speaks about the implantation of customized asymmetric multifocal toric IOLs in patients with hyperopic anisometropia and high astigmatism.

Rau collected data from 2009 to 2023 and found that the Lentis Mplus toric IOLs (Teleon Surgical) are a good solution for these complex cases that have no other surgical treatment options.

Hyperopia cannot be treated with excimer laser successfully, and ICLs are not available for hyperopia with such a high astigmatism,” Rau said. In addition, contact lenses in these patients must be hard rather than soft, and not all patients tolerate them.

Most patients were satisfied with the lens, she said, and those who were not had the expectation of achieving the same visual acuity of their other eye, which is not possible due to the hyperopia.
