WAILEA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye/Retina 2024, Nathan M. Radcliffe, MD, discusses the recent threats to reimbursement for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery procedures.

In December 2023, five Medicare Administrative Contractors withdrew their proposed local coverage determinations for MIGS. The changes were originally planned to begin Jan. 29, 2024. Some of the procedures at risk included canaloplasty, goniotomy, endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation and transscleral cyclophotocoagulation.

“Thankfully, [the Administrative Contractors] have pulled those draft LCDs, so we will continue to have the reimbursement that we’ve had prior,” he said. “We’re not losing a lot of valuable options as we were worried that we were.”

Radcliffe also previewed an upcoming presentation that will address how to navigate reimbursement in glaucoma in 2024.
