WAILEA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye 2024, Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS, discusses how a soft contact lens may deliver medication to the front of the eye as an alternative to eye drops.

“When necessary or warranted, it can be used to elute product onto the surface of the eye for about 4 days,” Matossian said. “And we are looking at various options, whether to do an antibiotic or a triple medication process like an NSAID, a steroid and an antibiotic for post-cataract procedures. There are also orphan drugs that we are looking to explore for orphan diseases such as cystinosis.”
