ROME — In this Healio Video Perspective from the FLORetina-ICOOR meeting, Serge Resnikoff, MD, PhD, chair of the International Myopia Institute, dispels some misconceptions regarding the cost of early management of myopia progression.
Many people, including eye care professionals, think that the cost is high, representing a barrier for patients, but this is not the case, he said.
“A recent study carried out in China and Australia demonstrated that the lifetime cost of myopia management is actually equivalent to the lifetime cost of traditional myopia correction with single vision glasses,” Resnikoff said.
Special glasses, special contact lenses and pharmaceutical treatment may have a high initial cost but save money later in life.
