SAN FRANCISCO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, John A. Hovanesian, MD, FACS, discusses the benefits of using Iheezo as an anesthetic for cataract and other anterior segment surgeries.

Iheezo (chloroprocaine hydrochloride ophthalmic gel 3%, Harrow) is a low viscosity topical gel that achieves a high level of anesthesia for the ocular surface in about 90 seconds, according to Hovanesian. Additionally, Iheezo reduces the need for intracameral injections of lidocaine as well as narcotic sedation, he said.

I really suggest to my colleagues who are looking to up their game and up the patient experience in cataract surgery that if you want to both simplify things and use a product that’s going to be very patient friendly, Iheezo is that product,” he said.
