In this Healio Video Perspective, Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth, MD, speaks about OCT-based artificial intelligence analysis for the management of geographic atrophy, a topic she discussed at the Euretina congress in Amsterdam.

Now that the first treatment opportunities for geographic atrophy (GA) have become available, a large number of GA patients requiring regular treatment and monitoring will add to the already large patient volumes of retina clinics, creating a strong need for automated GA segmentation. A new regulatory-approved tool, the RetInSight GA monitor, provides AI-based monitoring of GA progression.

“Every doctor can take an image of every patient that has GA and immediately see how far advance is the disease, if there is disease activity or whether this is quiet disease, and can also identify patients that will benefit from therapy,” Schmidt-Erfurth said.
