The FDA has granted clearance to the expansion of Heidelberg Engineering’s Anterion platform.

Anterion is an upgradeable all-in-one platform that offers biometry, intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation with corneal topography and tomography, anterior chamber metrics and high-resolution imaging to ophthalmologists for the improvement of their day-to-day clinical routine, according to the release.

The platform continues to include the Imaging App, a feature that was FDA-cleared in November 2021 and allows for high-resolution visualization of the anterior segment.

The recent FDA clearance brings with it the addition of three new apps: the Cataract App, the Cornea App and the Metric App.

Each app offers features to assist in diagnostic and surgical processes including integrated monofocal and toric IOL calculators, corneal wavefront assessments, measurement tools and OCT imaging.

"We were impressed by the high-quality images and measurements of the anterior segment that Anterion offers,” Mitchell W. Dul, OD, MS, principal investigator of the clinical trial evaluating Anterion, said in the release. “Its multi-faceted utility, high resolution, rapid image acquisition and intuitive user interface will make this device an invaluable tool for clinical practice."
