VIDEO: Methicillin resistance present in approximately 40% of endophthalmitis isolates

SAN FRANCISCO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, Penny A. Asbell, MD, FACS, MBA, presents data from the ARMOR study investigating antibiotic resistance patterns among endophthalmitis isolates.

The examination of more than 370 isolates between 2009 and 2022, showed approximately 40% of coagulase-negative staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus were methicillin-resistant, she said.

“What is equally important and something you should keep in mind: If it’s methicillin resistant, there’s a good chance that it’s resistant to a lot of other antibiotics as well,” Asbell said.
