VIENNA — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS meeting, Marie-José Tassignon, MD, PhD, summarizes the content of the Heritage Lecture, which was awarded to her this year.
Prevention of posterior capsule opacification has been a pivotal point of interest throughout her career as a surgeon and researcher. This intellectual drive led her to milestone discoveries in the anatomy of the eye and the creation of the bag-in-the-lens (BIL) implant.
She speaks here about the birth and evolution of the BIL concept, the successful outcomes and the future potential developments.
“Our next program is to try to make an EDOF lens, maybe even a little bit more than an EDOF, so that you can correct presbyopia in a well-centered lens, well-positioned lens in the capsular bag, reducing by that the chances and the risks of unhappy patients after implantation,” she said.
