In this Healio Video Perspective, Dilraj Grewal, MD, discusses a case of melanoma-associated retinopathy in a patient recalcitrant to treatment with immunosuppressive immunomodulator agents.

The patient showed improved visual acuity, visual field deficits and electroretinogram testing when given intravitreal steroid delivery, according to Grewal, who presented the case at the Retina Society meeting. The patient’s symptoms and functional responses on visual fields and electroretinogram declined as the intravitreal insert was depleted, and she showed repetitive and sustained improvements with repeated administration.

“This case further supports the use of intravitreal steroids as an option to treat melanoma-associated retinopathy, a disease that is often difficult to diagnose and treat,” he said.
