VIENNA — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS meeting, Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, speaks about PACE, short for PTK-assisted customized epi-on cross-linking.

PACE is a second-generation customized procedure, combining CXL with epithelial map-guided PTK to flatten and regularize the cornea. Hafezi tells the story of the technique and how it evolved, explaining the scientific basis and how it is performed.

“The effect is dramatic. We see difference maps of 5 D, 6 D, 7 D, sometimes 10 D of flattening immediately — not after 1 year, after 1 week,” he said.

More than 100 patients have been treated, with 1 year of follow-up.
