VIENNA — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS meeting, Sjoerd Elferink, MD, speaks about tools and tangible initiatives that ophthalmologists and ophthalmic nurses could use to make their practice more sustainable.

Within the #StartNextMonday campaign, the ESCRS Young Ophthalmologists for Sustainability group developed five clear practices regarding OR ventilation, the draping of the patient, the use of scrubs and sponges, the use of armrest covers and the use of eye shields.

Another initiative of the group at the congress was the “Sustainability Arena,” in which seven renowned senior surgeons were challenged in a boxing ring by young ophthalmologists about sustainability and what they do to increase sustainability of their practice.
