VIDEO: AI tools useful for monitoring disease activity with pegcetacoplan treatment
SEATTLE — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ASRS annual meeting, Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth, MD, discusses the efficacy of AI algorithms in measuring geographic atrophy lesion growth with pegcetacoplan treatment.
Automated image analysis was used to investigate changes in lesion size and disease progression in patients from the OAKS and DERBY studies, as well as the GALE extension study.
According to Schmidt-Erfurth, the image analysis tools can precisely image photoreceptors and detect changes in the retinal pigment epithelium.
“We can conclude that AI tools are very useful in describing and monitoring disease activity, as well as the therapeutic efficacy,” she said. “And even larger lesions respond very favorably to treatment.”
