Key takeaways:
- Toric IOLs in patients with astigmatism higher than 0.75 D may result in better visual acuity.
- The Alcon Verion system improves IOL calculations and axis orientation, leading to better visual outcomes.
VILAMOURA, Portugal — At the ESCRS winter meeting, Ewa Mrukwa-Kominek, MD, PhD, shares her experience with the Verion image-guided system from Alcon for the implantation of toric IOLs.
In a study of 50 eyes presented in a poster, this technology was used to establish IOL cylinder power and axis, as well as the location and size of the incision, leading to improved orientation of the toric lens and better postoperative visual acuity.
“Toric intraocular lenses are recommended for astigmatism higher than 2 D for sure but also for patients with astigmatism higher than 0.75 D to get better visual acuity postoperatively,” Mrukwa-Kominek said.
