Key takeaways:

  • Femtosecond laser technology for glaucoma treatment demonstrated safety at 2 years.
  • The risk for hyphema formation or infection is low because there is no incision.

SAN DIEGO — In this Healio Video Perspective from Eyecelerator@ASCRS, Thomas W. Samuelson, MD, discusses 2-year data from the first-in-human study investigating femtosecond laser technology in glaucoma surgery.

According to Samuelson, the procedure couples femto technology with OCT imaging to provide precise targeting and imaging with precise trabeculotomy in a noninvasive fashion.

“We have taken a very safe procedure and made it even safer because there is no real potential for hyphema formation or infection for that matter because there is no incision,” he said.
