Key takeaways:

  • The Qdata module contains electronic health record and imaging data from patients with geographic atrophy.
  • The module uses this data to help physicians better understand geographic atrophy progression.

NEW ORLEANS — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ARVO meeting, Durga S. Borkar, MD, MMCi, discusses Verana Health’s Qdata module for geographic atrophy.

The module is a curated data set of electronic health record and imaging data developed to better understand the journey of patients with geographic atrophy (GA).

“If you think about how we currently develop many algorithms, it’s often done using images that are taken in a very controlled setting like a clinical trial,” Borkar said. “That doesn’t always translate to real-world image quality. The Qdata GA module with images is an opportunity to really do some rigorous artificial intelligence research using images that are taken in a real-world setting and use those insights to understand disease progression and impact of certain treatments.”
