Bausch + Lomb launched StableVisc and the TotalVisc viscoelastic system in the United States, according to a press release.
StableVisc is a cohesive ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) that maintains space in the anterior chamber during cataract surgery. TotalVisc, which includes StableVisc as well as the dispersive OVD ClearVisc, helps protect ocular tissue during the procedure.
“OVDs are critical to surgeons’ success when performing cataract surgery, which is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States,” Joe Gordon, president, global consumer, surgical and vision care, Bausch + Lomb, said in the release. “StableVisc and TotalVisc provide surgeons with new OVD options that offer unique benefits designed to help ensure the best possible surgical outcomes for patients.”
TotalVisc is the only dual pack available in the United States with a dispersive and cohesive OVD formulated with sorbitol, a chemical agent that creates a strong barrier and increases free radical scavenging capabilities compared with other OVDs, according to the release.
