VILAMOURA, Portugal — At the ESCRS winter meeting, Ioannis Pallikaris, MD, PhD, gives an update on the society’s humanitarian projects.
The Refugee Project in Greece, which consists of a mobile unit to provide eye care, has now been extended to Ukrainian refugees.
Pallikaris also speaks about his fixOflex ring (Eye PCR), an implant designed to maintain a consistent and stable environment for IOL placement, minimizing tilt, decentration and posterior capsule opacification (PCO) formation.
The device has been adopted by several specialists worldwide, and trials are starting in many countries. Initially designed for the cataract surgeon, the ring is highly appreciated by retina specialists and pediatric ophthalmologists, according to Pallikaris, because it makes IOL replacement easy and safe, in addition to preventing PCO.
Pallikaris concludes with an invitation to the upcoming Aegean Cornea & Cataract meeting at Cape Sounio, close to Athens and the Temple of Poseidon.
