Key takeaways:

  • A study compared the Lentis Mplus and the Acunex, both from Teleon.
  • Different materials and refractive indexes led to different pros and cons but equal satisfaction.

VILAMOURA, Portugal — In this Healio Video Perspective at the ESCRS winter meeting, Magda Rau, MD, speaks about a study in which she compared the Teleon Lentis Mplus and the more recent Teleon Acunex.

The two lenses have the same asymmetric multifocal design, with an aspheric distance-vision zone combined with a sector-shaped near vision segment. The Lentis Mplus is made of hydrophilic acrylic with a hydrophobic surface, 25% water content and a refractive index of 1.46. The Acunex is made of hydrophobic material with 4% water and 1.54 refractive index.

In the study, each patient was implanted with the Mplus in one eye and the Acunex in the contralateral eye. Both lenses performed well, with different advantages and disadvantages that, on balance, led to equal satisfaction.

“Different materials and different refractive indexes can influence the optical outcomes of the lenses,” Rau said.
