TAMPA, Fla. — At the Telling It Like It Is meeting here, Robert F. Melendez, MD, MBA, discusses the importance of measuring tear osmolarity before refractive or cataract surgery.

“It is recommended by the ASCRS ocular surface disease preop algorithm to measure the osmolarity,” Melendez said. “The higher that number indicates a higher likelihood of dry eye.”

Melendez noted that he has adopted the ScoutPro osmolarity system for performing preoperative osmolarity evaluations.
