KOLOA, Hawaii — In this Healio Video Perspective from Hawaiian Eye 2023, Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, previews the advantages of a new topical anesthetic.

“It’s actually our first new topical anesthetic in over a decade, and it has some advantages,” he said. “It has a rapid onset of action and a longer duration of action than the typical tetracaine or proparacaine that we use today.”

Iheezo (chloroprocaine hydrochloride ophthalmic gel, Harrow) was FDA approved for ocular surface anesthesia in September 2022.
