VIDEO: Positive results seen with engineered fibroblast growth factor for Fuchs’
CHICAGO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the AAO meeting, Francis W. Price Jr., MD, discusses an engineered fibroblast growth factor from Trefoil Therapeutics for Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy.
“We found that this engineered growth factor actually stimulated the cells to either divide or just slide over more quickly and cover the area that we stripped with [Descemet stripping only],” Price said. “This is exciting for patients that we may be able to just give one injection at the time of DSO and get the endothelium to regenerate or just slide over and cover the area that we stripped.”
According to Price, there will be a phase 3 study in the near future.
