VIDEO: Oxidative stress correlates with visual acuity in patients with retinal pathologies
DENVER — Higher levels of oxidative stress, as evidenced by flavoprotein fluorescence, correlated with poorer best corrected visual acuity in patients with various retinal pathologies, according to a study presented at the ARVO meeting.
Sofia Ahsanuddin, a medical student and research fellow at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, told Healio/OSN that oxidative stress indicates mitochondrial dysfunction, which is thought to occur early in the disease process.
