The Systane iLux2 meibomian gland dysfunction thermal pulsation system delivers heat and pressure therapy while allowing patients to visualize their treatment, according to an Alcon press release.

By using infrared pictures and high-definition video of the meibomian glands, the handheld device allows patients to see the need for dry eye treatment and view the procedure. It also gives providers the ability to tailor meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) treatment for each patient.

“Alcon is dedicated to the advancement of medical device technology and providing eye

care professionals with the tools needed to effectively treat their patients,” Fred Ellis, vice president, U.S. pharmaceutical and dry eye, Alcon, said in the release. “With the Systane iLux2 MGD thermal pulsation system, eye care professionals will be able to further patient trust and confidence because seeing is believing.”

Providers can use the device to customize heat and compression across treatment zones and to track the disease over time by storing images of the meibomian glands.
