Santen is partnering with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to implement United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/75/L.108, focusing on eye health and sustainable development, according to a press release.
The resolution “encourages governments and key stakeholders from around the world to mobilize the necessary resources to address this urgent priority,” the release said.
Santen and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) are working to support the resolution by partnering with governments and stakeholders to develop a monitoring system, as well as encouraging “the inclusion of eye health in voluntary national reporting on the sustainable development goals,” the release said. Additionally, Santen and IAPB will coordinate advocacy and public affairs strategies to lobby for eye health target inclusion in the next review of the sustainable development goals, the release said.
“The eye health sector has believed for a long time that quality eye care is critical to the world achieving the sustainable development goals,” Peter Holland, CEO of IAPB said, in the release. “IAPB and its members are committed to supporting governments to implement this resolution and ensure that no one is left behind.”
“As a specialized company dedicated to ophthalmology, we are committed to promoting international efforts on eye health and contributing to the realization of the [sustainable development goals]. Supporting the implementation of this resolution is a crucial step towards facilitating access to eye care services and reducing the loss of social and economic opportunities for people around the world due to eye conditions,” Shigeo Taniuchi, president and CEO of Santen, said in the release.
