Alcon launches Vivity IOL

Alcon has launched the AcrySof IQ Vivity IOL, the first non-diffractive extended depth of focus IOL in the U.S.
The IOL features non-diffractive X-Wave technology, which stretches and shifts light without splitting it, according to a company press release. It provides monofocal-quality distance vision with “excellent” intermediate and functional near vision, and it is available in toric designs.
In clinical data, 94% of Vivity patients reported very good or good vision at distance, while 92% reported very good or good distance at arm’s length, with a comparable visual disturbance profile to a monofocal lens.
Vivity received FDA approval in February 2020 and began rolling out in a pilot phase in September 2020.
