ARVO 2021 moves to fully virtual format
The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology has announced that its annual meeting has moved to a fully virtual format for 2021, according to the meeting website.
Details of the meeting, originally scheduled for May 2 to 6 in San Francisco, will be released soon.
“During these challenging times, we feel it is critical to continue to provide a forum in which scientific research can proceed and be shared globally. ARVO is focused on providing a robust and meaningful scientific exchange in a virtual format to help ensure the health and safety of all. A virtual event allows for an expanded reach of the annual meeting to more people than ever, in real time and asynchronously, with live chats that encourage meaningful dialogue,” Stephen Pflugfelder, MD, FARVO, president of ARVO, said in the announcement.
Pflugfelder said the spread of COVID-19, travel restrictions and venue limitations prompted the move to the virtual format.
Registration for the 2021 meeting opens Dec. 14.
